In my car fotd 1

This was a fotd I posted on my other blog a few months ago, but I wanted to share it here because I plan on doing more of these fun car fotds ***just to be clear, I don't do them while driving, I do them in the parking lot when I'm waiting to pick my daughter up from school.*** It's a fun challenge because I just use whatever I find in my purse. I'm not the type of person to keep a set amount of things in my purse, but I'll throw random things in my purse here and there depending on what I need to touch up for that day...I'm sure most of you know how it is :)

So while waiting in the parking lot to pick up my daughter from school, I had 20 minutes to spare, so I decided to make an fotd using some of the random crap I found in my purse! It was all random stuff I had from previous days and weeks, and was determined to make a look with it

The 4 brushes that I had to work with in my purse were a 187, 168, 217, and 213 (what more could a girl need, other than a 266 lol)

Products used:

  • eyes:
    • MAC select cover up concealer nw15
    • shadows:
      • CARGO: Saucilito duo (beige on my brow bone, the brown in my crease, undereyes, and brows)
      • MAC pigment: frozen white (on lid)
    • MAC plushlash in black
  • skin:
    • MAC studio fix powder nc35 (not my color, but I just used it lightly to get some coverage)
    • MAC hyper real powder in medium
    • MAC mineralized blush in "gentle"
    • MAC hyper real powder in lavender fx for highlight
  • lips
    • MAC lipstick Lazy Day
    • MAC lipglass Crystal Rose

new MAC and OPI Haul!!

Wooo! Ok, first thing's first, here's what I got:

OPI (Left to Right) - 1. Yoga-Ta Get This Blue!, 2. Teal The Cows Come Home, 3. Need Sunglasses?, 4. Mod-Ern Girl, 5.  All Rose Lead to Rome.

MAC:
Studio Fix Lash in black
Pro Pan Eyeshadow "Brun"
Pro Pan Eyeshadow "Mulch"
Pro Pan Eyeshadow "Era"
Pro Pan Eyeshadow "Seedy Pearl"
Pro Pan Eyeshadow "Phloof!"
Lipstick "Angel"
Cream Colour Base "Madly Magenta"
Brush 191
Brush 318
Eye Kohl "Feline"
Fluidline "Waveline"
Fluidline "Dark Diversion"
Studio Fix Fluid Foundation NC25
Studio Sculpt Foundation NC15

The Majority of the MAC items were just common products I use in my kit that I needed to replace. The only thing I really got for  "me" were the fluidlines and the lipstick. Happy with all of it!

I know the bright pink cream colour base looks like it would be for fun too, but surprisingly this is a staple in my kit. Years before MAC re-promoted it in its "Stylishly Yours" Collection, this same cream colour base was promoted. I had a couple and throughout the years have been using them up. I use it all the time as a base under ANY purple eyeshadow. It REALLY makes a huge difference in how vibrant the purple appears. Can't seem to get your hands on this cream colour base? Try using a magenta colored lipstick (yes, lipstick!) and use a brush and apply it just like you would any other base :) MAC re-promoted this color in JUST the right time! My last one was just about out!

I'm just recently starting to get into colors on my nails. I've been french tipping my nails for the past 8 years and it's time I added some spunk! Right now my FAVORITE nail polish color is China Glazes "Flip Flop Fantasy"...it's soooo bright (and makes me look more than than I really am, hehe).

Celebrity Makeup Artist Mario Dedivanovic Gives Back

Makeup Artist Mario Dedivanovic with his client, Kim Kardashian

Mario Dedivanovic is a celebrity makeup artist whose work and portfolio are truly impressive.

But more on that later.

Most impressive to Nineveh, of course, is the work that Mario is doing to make the world a beautiful place.

Mario told us that he tries to give back as much as he can by using his makeup skills and his time.

"It's the least I [can] do and I look forward to giving back more in the future."
During fashion week last year, Mario invited recording artist and actress Adrienne Bailon to The Lower East Side Girls Club.
"I gave a full makeup demo on Adrienne to a room filled with young women and even some boys from the charity.

I wanted them all to see the amount of work that is put into magazine covers and red carpets in hopes of raising their self esteem and showing them that no one is perfect

I also taught the girls a bunch of simple makeup tips that they could use on themselves daily or for college interviews, etc.   I reached out to a few makeup companies that sponsored and gave me a bunch of product to gift all of the girls with.  The energy in the room that day was spectacular.  The kids were so happy and grateful for everything, and so was I."

Recently, Mario was asked to be the key makeup artist for The Inspiration Gala fashion show.  The entire events proceeds went to amFar - the Foundation for AIDS Research.
"I didn't think twice to say yes, and in fact, I was very honored to give my time for such a great charity.  I brought in my team of artists who all devoted their time to work on the show.

Smashbox cosmetics gladly sponsored me, and as always, they provided us with all their amazing product.  Love Smashbox!"

Mario also recently hosted two workshops in L.A. for Industry Art Shops, which allowed him to choose a charity of his choice to give a percentage of the workshop proceeds.
"I chose an amazing charity called CARRY - The Coalition for At-Risk Youth. CARRY is an non-profit organization dedicated to changing the lives of foster youth suffering from debilitating skin disorders. I look forward to soon meeting the beautiful children at CARRY and to continue to help change the lives of all children who suffer."

In addition to his charitable work, Mario is a full-time Makeup Artist. I asked him which projects or people he has been most proud to work with.

"I enjoy so many jobs that I work on and the people I work with as well. One I'm very proud of is my first global advertising campaign.  It was for Pioneer Electronics.  Genius photographer and good friend David Field shot the three day campaign, and one of the images is a black and white of a model morphing into a butterfly.  It's framed and hangs on my living room wall for years [now].  I guess that job made me feel 'official'.

I have to of course mention my work with the beauty, Kim Kardashian.  Whether I make her up for a red carpet, a beauty campaign, a Harpers Bazaar shoot or for her TV show, I am always proud of my work on her.  Kim carries  every look with such grace, beauty and class.  Doing her makeup is hardly a job. Its a beautiful experience. "

Based on his work in the field with beauties like Kim, Mario has inevitably had opportunities to create a product or tool to help in his professional work.

He has already created a product called Eye M Glam for Giella Cosmetics, which he describes as "a gorgeous all over highlighter that gives your skin a sheer golden glow, and it's truly a universal shade.  I created the product while sitting on my apartment floor one evening.  It was for myself to use on my clients and I never thought for a second that it would be available for sale.  When Giella saw Eye M Glam, she wanted to include it as a product in her line.  Within a couple of months people from all over the world were ordering Eye M Glam from Giella.com.  The reviews have been very positive, and it's getting more popular every day."

For aspiring makeup artist's, Mario's humble starts are an inspiration. He worked at a fragrance counter at a department store. He was constantly mistaken for a makeup artist, and as he began offering his advice, his natural talent and ability in makeup artistry became evident to him and those around him, and he pursued the field wholeheartedly.

I asked him what advice he has for those who are considering a career in makeup artistry.
"My advice to those of you considering a career in makeup artistry is to pay your dues by testing a lot for your book and assisting bigger artists as much as you possibly can.  You will learn the tricks of the trade and be better prepared to deal with any issues on a shoot or job.

I think it's also critical that you research  the industry past and present. Understand the looks from each era and be familiar with the names of designers, models, photographers, hairstylists, agencies, etc. You can never know or learn enough."

The Body Shop Gives Back

The Body Shop is known for having products that provide fragrances that delight the senses and invoke relaxation or rejuvenation, based on the aroma that you select.

Because it's target customer base is women, I was happy to learn of a special  campaign that The Body Shop is running that helps bring awareness to the issue of domestic violence and a program that specifically helps child victims of this abuse.

All proceeds from every Daisy Soap (Regulary $4 USD...at the time of this article, there is a sale for only $1 USD!!!) - a vegetable facial cleansing soap and $2 from each Stop Violence in the Home Lip Care Stick ($5 USD) go to the National Domestic Violence hotline.

What struck me as special about The Body Shop's mission with regards to Domestic Violence Awareness is the company's concern with the long-term impact of domestic violence on children, who they describe  as: "the most marginalized and vulnerable group of victims..."

In 2006 their concern that "while it is widely accepted that growing up around domestic violence is a devastating experience for many children, worryingly little is known about the full extent of the problem."

To learn more so as to have the information needed to fight this problem, The Body Shop partnered with UNICEF to conduct a study. The findings included:"the research provides what we believe is a first, critical step towards a fuller picture of how many children are exposed to violence in the home. "

You can read the full article of their findings here

For more information on Domestic Violence, including the profile of an abuser, why people tend to become abusers, and why women often stay in abusive relationships, click here to read The Body Shop's article on Domestic Violence Awareness.

The article also includes information on how you can help a friend, co-worker, or loved one who is in an abusive relationship, and a list of Domestic Violence Resources for those who are ready to ask for help or who have questions or concerns about Domestic Violence.

Let's not let another moment pass without us standing up for the children who are exposed to domestic violence. We must be their voice. They need to count on you and I to make sure they are safe.

LC Makeup Seminar in LA on June 24th

Hey everyone,

I know many of you are going to IMATS this summer in Pasadena, CA. As many of you know, I teach makeup lessons here in Phoenix and wanted to take advantage of being in a different state by having a seminar. I'm in the process of setting it up with the Starwood Sheraton Hotel in Pasadena (Across the street from the IMATS convention center), but before I finalize anything with the hotel, I need an aproximate head count of who will attend.

Here's what the seminar is scheduled to cover (this may change if you all request other things):

  • a few eye looks
  • day to evening makeup
  • bridal makeup
  • perfect foundation application
  • contouring and highlighting
  • lip application (including how to apply a perfect red lip)
  • tattoo cover
  • how to apply false lashes on others
  • color theory
  • brush usages
  • how to make money as an artist
*Goody Bags* will be given to everyone (makeup samples and full size products), and snacks will be provided. Alcohol provided but you have to show proof of being legal drinking age :)

There will be a lot of classroom interaction (and don't come to the class with perfected makeup, because we'll be doing makeup on each other and I'll be doing demo's on you guys)

The Seminar will be 3 hours long and costs $200. Please email me if you'd like to sign up...thanks in advance

The Balm Cosmetics Company Gives Back

One of our favorite MakeUp Artists, Lauren Luke, best known by her YouTube handle, Panacea81, loves her cute little pugs and has brought awareness to this breed by including them in many of her makeup tutorial videos.

But Lauren is not the only makeup lover who adores little Pugs. The Balm cosmetics company has a campaign called "the Balm to the Rescue."

Their lip balm treatment is formulated with all vegan ingredients - absolutely no animal byproducts. We think it's a good find because it includes "micro-exfoliating crystals" that help de-funk your lips to keep them looking healthy, smooth and natural and to prep your lips for flawless lipstick application.

The balm comes in an oversize 0.25 oz (7.08 grams)container, and the company is donating a generous 100% of the proceeds from its sale (retail price $16 USD) to Pug Rescue in Sacramento.

This organization helps restore a life of happiness and goodness to pugs who have been abused, neglected, or abandoned, and they prevent the animals from being euthanized.

At press time, the Balm was sold out of this product, but keep an eye out for it, and in the meantime, visit www.PugPros.org to learn more about how you can help. And, in the words of the Balm: "Kindness is not breed specific. For other rescue groups or shelters, please search online in your area."

Contest Ended Early Due To People Playing Un-fair!

Contest winner - Pretty As Peaches, congrats!!

I was forced to end my MAC Giveaway contest early due to people not playing fair. Even though I spelled out the official rules very clearly, people still did not listen.

It was quite *obvious* that some of you were getting your friends to just make an account, and subscribe. This was against the rules and I verified every single commenter's account to check if they were 1.) subscribed, 2.) had a blog or were following other blogs as well, and 3.) didn't just make their account in Jan 2011.

Some accounts were *very* questionable to say the least, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt anyway.

There were many commenters who had made their accounts in January 2011, following only my blog, didn't have a blog of their own, no picture, zero views, etc. It was very obvious and I'm sorry but any of those accounts were immediately discredited.

Pretty as Peaches didn't have a single person make up an account, and had the most commenters (that were real).

Pretty as Peaches, please email me at me@lauren-clark.com to give me your name and address, thanks so much.

Better luck next time to those of you who wanted to win. I'll have a Smashbox contest later on. Please play fair!

Jersey Shores Celebrity MakeUp Artist Leora Edut Gives Back!

It was my pleasure to interview Celebrity Makeup Artist Leora Edut.  Following her passion since 1995, Leora started out with MAC Cosmetics and has since been featured by MTV, D&G, America's Top Model, Glamour Magazine...the list goes on.

She's worked with big names, including Rihanna, Molly Sims, Kelis, Kate Voegele, and the cast of Jersey Shores doing their season premier press, including GMA, E, and Extra just a couple of weeks ago.

She also enjoys working on the runway with fashion models for names like Dolce and Gabanna, Halston, Sean John, Tom Ford, and Baby Phat. The variety keeps things interesting.

Leora caught our attention because although she is so busy working in the entertainment and fashion industries, she has become a "Beauty Activist," whose heart has been touched and motivated to help a population that needs so much beauty and encouragement in their lives - victims of domestic violence.

Leora volunteers her time and makeup skills at such organizatins as Good Shepherd Services, GEMS, Genesis House III, and Brookhaven of Grace Smith House (a domestive violence program).

Leora shared that she considers herself to have been a "troubled teen" who hung around with a rough crowd in Detroit.  When she had the opportunity to move to New York to follow her passion of makeup artistry, she jumped at the chance to turn her life around.

"I have become a role model and inspiration for young women and spend my time with them,[teaching them how to go] after their dreams and passions," she told Nineveh Makeup Ministries, "You can say my life's mission is to now help young girls and be an inspiration for others."

Keep it up, Leora! You're an inspiration to all of us!

starting the new year off with a POW

We're only a week into 2011 and already there are incredible plans and things currently happening that I could have only dreamed about before.

For one, I'm building an office/studio. I've always had an office, but now that baby #3 is on the way, my office will become a bedroom like it's original intent was. We've got a strangely laid out house in that the dining room looks like its own room but one of the walls is a half wall that opens out to the great room. I'm having the half wall built up to a full wall, and turning that into my new office and adding a studio in there. Then, in our great room, we'll add the dining room. That room is more than big enough to accommodate both rooms. Yesterday I received my backdrops, professional lighting, and hd camcorder I had ordered for my youtube videos. When I said I was going to be focusing on youtube tutorials, I meant it. I also bought a new chic desk since my other one is too small. My hubby helped me put it all together last night and it's really turning out :) Pictures to follow when it's complete. And the new and improved tutorials will begin probably on tuesday.

Secondly, I'm starting up a business and putting a lot of time, money, and tears into getting that up and going. The concept is a secret as of right now, sorry :/

I'm also writing a makeup artist's manual for my one-on-one and group classes that I offer to aspiring makeup artists. I had a small one before, but since I'm getting more classes lined up, I felt the time was right to write a proper book. This should be completed by the beginning of February, and no, as of now, they will not be for sale or available to anyone other than students.

Lastly, I've been booking incredible jobs. I started out the new year by booking a very highly paid music video (keeping the artist a secret) shoot. There's a lot of other really exciting ventures for me, I feel so blessed!

curious what's on my eyes? Cloudbound, Up at  Dawn
and Violet Trance from the Balloonacy Quad
Also, 2 days ago was my 25th birthday. Everyone and especially my husband made me feel so great, although I never got that Ice cream cake I wanted...hehe :)
